Solanine itself is a glycoalkaloid poison that is found in species of nightshade family (Solanaceae), such as potato (Solanum tuberosum). Solanine also can occur naturally in any part of the plant, including the leaves, fruit, and tuber. Solanine substance can has fungicidal or pesticidal properties, and this is one of plant's natural defenses.
People who get solanine poison have symptom like nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, stomach cramps, headache and dizziness. In large solanine poisonous can cause death. One study report that doses of 2 to 5 mg per kg of body weight can cause toxic symptoms, and more than 5 mg per kg body weight can be fatal.
Symptom will appear after occur for 8 to 12 hours, but may occur as rapidly as 30 minutes after eating solanine foods.
